I would not cut down the aerial to make it shorter.

There is a technical reason to do with wave lengths and impedences etc, that should / would affect the signal reception, however if the Tigra has a shorter aerial, and is fitted with the same style of radio head-units, then I would buy the Tigra mast instead.

Note there is a distinct change-over period for pre October 2004 and post october 2004 vehicles / radios.

As said correctly above, the Sat Nav Aerial is a little block built into the base of the aerial mount, and so won't be affected by the radio aerial, however the TMC / Traffic Master system could well be affected by the "radio aerial".

TMC and TM signals are sent along side the standard radio signals of some radio stations such as Real Radio, Classic FM and some others.

The unit in the driver's side rear wing on some pre October 2004 models is a traffic master unit...not a sat nav unit.
The sat nav itself is built into the head-unit of a CD70, NCDC2013 or NCDC2015.

Nonsense look at a Tigra ariel and look at a vectra one , only difference is length. Doesnt effect tmc or anything like that . Ed Taylor on here used to do short stubby aluminium ones and they were spot on too with no adverse effect on reception or tmc. So with your above statement I presume you have done the above and cut the ariel and it was no good on your car or are you just submising

Aerial lengths are very important, however as these are only receivers it will affect it but not by a vast amount unless you go into a bad reception area, plus you have to remember the vec has an amplifier in the aerial base which will compensate a bit.

Car aerials are wide band aerials as they need to be able to cope with a very wide band of frequencies.

    Nonsence, I think not...!!

Aerial manufacturers will be able to create suitable wavelength / band-widths or impedences etc; by juggling wire lengths, tightness of the coiling around the central stem, balance resisters and other semi-conductors.

Shorter aerials will have more coils wrapped round the central core per inch in length...if that makes sense.

So yes aerial length is important....or at least as important as the lack of signal strength of transmissions in your area.
