Default Aerial that won't affect SatNav

I've been looking for a smaller aerial for my Signum but want to make sure I don't buy one that will affect my SatNav.

It's a CD70 Navi and I'm sure I read a post about some people changing their aerial and it meaning their SatNav stopped working.

Is this true and if so what sort of aerials can you still fit?

    Thanks in advance guys

As far as I know, the aerial doesn't affect the satnav, the gps receiver is built into the base, so you can use any aerial. Try unscrewing your aerial to see if it affects the sat nav reception. I may be wrong, but worth a try...

Changing the "whip" part of the aerial shouldn't affect the GPS reception. If it's the base thought the GPS aerial part was mounted in the rear of the car as a separate unit.
People who have retro fitted the CD70 have used a GPS patch aerial with a FAKRA connector, about £10 from the bay.

A good way to use a genuine Vauxhall aerial is to order the Tigra aerial. This comes in 6mm thread and 7mm thread for bluetooth. It's a good bit shorter than the Vectra/Signum one, I had one on my Vectra.

You could trim down the standard one , remove the ariel from the car then heat up the little rubber bit at the top with a hairdryer or even boiling water and pull that off first and then trim to size required then pop the rubber bit back on job done.
Havent done this to my vectra yet , just havent got round to it but did it on an astra I had last year and didnt effect the radio reception at all

Was the radio reception still good?

I'm not sure Ken as the car has gone now. It's a good bit shorter though, I reckon by about 60-90mm.

A good alternative would be to cut your existing one down as posted above. The aerials are identical the Tigra and Vectra one except for lengths.

I'm a bit adverse to taking a stanley to my aerial, think I remember the salesman who sold me my Vectra saying that oem aerials are a pretty penny- said one time they had someone walk across the whole forecourt one evening and stole all the aerials.

The Tigra one was around £15 iirc.
