Smile Pleased with myself - GID Fitted

So went from TID to GID this afternoon

Ripped the top of the dash out, tidied some other stuff like the ex-police wiring snipped behind and making the radio difficult to push home.

    Had a couple of problems.

    1) Was a complete wimp and couldn't get the plastic separated on the 32 pin connector block so I couldn't swap the connectors round. As I'd been given a long length of cables with the 32 pin plug I stripped back and connected to a choc-block, then pulled the pins out of the TID plug (which separated easily), then just connected the pins to the choc block.

    2) MHBCBV advised that he didn't think op-com could change the code-index. It did and it worked fine. He also said I'd need to reset the CIM, this was true and I did this without any bother (had done it before and it's a scary moment when you have to re-program keys and immobiliser). All done stalk configured.

    3) It's now all working but I think the secondhand stalk is ******ed or the contacts need cleaning, the up button doesn't work everything else does! Might have to buy a new one from VX, which is what I should've done in the first place.

As you can see from the pictures, it's all working. Have to drive to Reading and back this evening (140 mile round trip), so I can see if it works as well as my previous Vectra.

Once again, thanks to everyone who makes these How 2's, this is why I paid my subscription and will continue to do so.

    Have a big grin now.

Just need my damn cruise control stalk, that was ordered a long time before the rest of the above.

Now that I've done that and the display works, I'm going to get the full connects2 pack for my Sony HU. Enables the steering wheel controls and track information on the display.

Nice, how long did it take? Did you fit the fluid washer sensor aswell? I'm also after fitting one of these!

It took me a couple of hours, but I was being extremely cautious. I was surprised how easy the dash came apart. The longest part was probably making the cabling (stripping and connecting etc.). I did have a washer bottle sensor which I've not fitted yet and it's too damn cold. I was going to connect and temporarily keep it together so it didn't trip. I'll now do the whole job properly and fit the sensor, but not until it's warm enough. I couldn't see the connector but I didn't take the arch liner off, was considering the 'grounding' method but again, too cold so I'll just wait.

Should mention, I did NOT need the additional wires to the diagnostic port. Not sure why, or what this is required for. I've run the cable down the back to connect up if necessary, but I needed pins to plug in. Unsure if this will be a problem, it's clearly to program the GID which I'm not sure if I need.

Does it needed programming for engine size? Range seemed fairly accurate at the minute, I'll see what fuel consumption figures it comes out with on the move.
