    Default Servicing

Do you do your own servicing or use a dealer/private garage?

I Just booked mine in at a dealer service £180 plus £30 to do wheel alignment as I just replaced my front coil springs.

All a bit pricey for what it is me thinks.

You could probably service it yourself for around £50 to £60. then pay a mechanic to do it for you say £50 and you would still be quids in. As far as wheel alignment goes unless you know someone who can do it for you £30 seems a wee bit steep, but in saying that I am very lucky and hardly ever need to pay full price for anything for my cars. I usually do the work myself and have good contacts for anything I need to buy.

Unless you have a warrenty and it needs to be serviced by the stealer/vat reg garage then you could just do it yourself.

Parts are cheap and the vec is fairly easy to service compared to some modern cars

I've done services, all brake pipes, front brake upgrade,a front wheel bearing, rear upper arms, changed all springs and fitted arb bushes (not my car but still a vec)

And none of the jobs were particularly difficult with exception of the brake pipes (one goes over the fuel tank )

The Vec is a pretty simple car, until you come to the electrical system

quite tempted just to cancel that service - and to get someone else to do the allignment.

    anyone have a servicing guide?

It's actually a signum 2.0dti, but cant be much different.

I managed to replace the front springs - so should be able to manage a service?

Easily mate, buy a haynes manual. It's got all the info you'll need and will only cost approx 17 quid.

You can get a genuine vx service kit from ebay with filter etc from ebay for about 25 quid. You'll need oil too obviously and a 36mm nut for the oil filer housing (dti's have an element filter)

Sorry to hi-jack the post, but was the wheel bearings an easy job? I got some advisories on my MOT, both REAR wheel bearings had "slight play". Maybe rear are harder than front, not sure, but will this be a garage job or home alone? Also, could a bump dead on the rear wheel at 60+ mph cause this perhaps?

Oil & filter at National Tyres is about £39... (less 10% ordered online)... I think Kwikfit do similar..... that's the messy part cheap enough. As peeps are saying, the rest of it is easy enough with a Haynes book and a bit of care.

Not done a rear but I assume they would be easy as there is no driveshaft in the way. There are three torx bolts that hold it in place (it's not pressed in)
