Question How much for brake pad replacement?

    Hi,

My Vec 1.9 cdti SRI has done 56K and i think the pads need replacing. Can anyone tell me how much I should expect to pay for the parts and the fitting.

Don't want to change them myself would rather have it done at a garage.

    Many thanks!

A front disc and pad kit for the 1.9 CDTi is about £72 retail + VAT, but if you have trade club your looking at about £58 inc VAT. Rears are pretty much the same price.

Regarding labour, depends who you use. Rates vary, but it is not a hard job to do. It's not worth changing pads on there own as the disc and pad kits are so reasonable.

The prices I am talking about are for dealer parts, I have no idea what you would pay aftermarket, but I don't think you'll save much.

Are you sure that's the cost mate...? The 314mm pad and disc kit is £72+vat, so I'd have thought the standard setup was cheaper...

    This is VX however...

3.0 and 1.9 have the same retail price, well within a couple of quid. When I enquired about the vented rear disc and pad kit for the 3.0, it was £58 + VAT on trade club.

Also look out for eBay bargains, sometimes grooved/drilled/grooved&drilled pop up for little more than standard discs

I got a set of grooved&drilled for £15 extra than generic discs for an old car.

Discs and pads are relatively easy on the front, as long as you have the right tools (by that I mean good quality).

It would be cheaper for me to drive down to that VX dealership then!
The front pads alone are £60, plus half an hours fitting
The front kit (pads and discs) is £80, plus one hour fitting
The rear pads are £40, plus one hour fitting
The rear kit (pads and discs) is £75, plus one hour fitting
Up to now VX have been paying, now that my warranty has expired the money comes from me, and I will simply be buying the kit every time!

Changed the pads on the other halfs vectra today.
Took an hour (calipers needed cleaning up)
Pads cost about £15 (trade price)
If you have the tools to do it, then do it.
If not you would be able to buy the tools and pads for alot cheaper than a garage would charge to do it!

That price was not just from my dealership, it was out of the tradeclub book, so should be available at all dealerships.

But your right, discs on there own and pads on there own are way more expensive than a kit. So even if your discs are in good shape when the pads are gone, it's cheaper to buy a kit.

When mine went in at 45000 miles for the brakes, I had the following done.

    Front discs and Pads
    Rear Discs and Pads
Oil and Filter change (5/30 VX Oil)
Re-fitting of 1.9 front calipers (VXR brakes were removed)

The whole bill inc VAT was £215.87.

Yes I get good discount on labour, but I got the discs/pads and oil/filter at Trade Club prices which would be the same as anyone else on here who has access to Trade Club.
