    Default Drivers Side Window???

    Hello All.
I have an 07 reg cdti 1.9 vectra. Its a work horse taxi and a great car and most of the maint I can do myself I have done 146,000 on it now from new and intend on having it for a few months yet or 200k.
Today the drivers window stopped working,I think the cable snapped. When I press up or down the motor makes the correct noise but the window stays put.
What I need to know is it an easy job to replace the cable,if there is one? I just dont want to start stripping the door down only to put it back and take it to a workshop to get it finished.I am in the Manchester area so any help or advice greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Mike

it's a scissor mechanism, not cables that open the window, get the door card off (search for the how to) and find out whats broke. if the motor is ok, a mechanism without the motor is £75 from dealers. it's a bit of a fidely job, and you have to drill out and replace some pop rivets, but you can do it yourself.

It is most likely that you have a frozen glass and the clip that secures the glass to the mechanism has detached or broken.

Only way to find out is to remove the door card and take a look.

As above , there is no cables, just the scissor mechanism.
The chances of the glass becoming detatched from the mechanism is very very slim as it sits on a channel with a rubber compression fitting.
Sounds a bit odd to me , best thing to do is whip the panel off and see whats going on.
If your not sure on this get it to a garage.
I could have a look at it and if needed sort it out , get the parts needed etc .
I do this for a living , so would have to charge ( vectra.c com rates )

I have seen many windows glasses become detached from the mechanism, from either failure of the gripping media or have simply slid out.

If any of the above has occurred on a vec c , then there has been some muppetry going on in the door at some point

No, not seen any on Vec C, but the retaining system probably won't have changed that much, and I don't know that cause of these failures either.

I've had that too on Vectra A's & B's, Astras too, simple enough fix on the ones I've come across.

    1. Door card and plastic covering off, examine and straighten/repair any bent or twisted linkages, re-seat door glass in it's runner by means of double sided self adhesive pads.
    2. Lubricate all the moving parts with a silicone spray, use a good quality silicone (not WD40) and it won't dry out for years.
    3. Test up and down, reprogramme stops as necessary, gaffer tape plastic covering and refit door card.

    Hi,

I bought my 54 plate vectra a week ago later to find out that the passanger window would only go down using their control then having to use the driver's control to raise it back up again.
Has anyone else had this happen to them or anyone got any ideas what I can do?
    Any answers are much appriciated.

Try taking the switches out and giving the contacts a clean.
