    Default heater problems

i cant believe the problems i am having with my vectra just lately,,heres another that has just recently happened.
seems an odd one to me...

For some reason the screen de-mist button works but the air seems to cut off and blow at fan speed 7 and very little happens ?
even with the air recirc button pressed its the same.

soon as i switch the front sceen demist off i get a light breeze from the front screen vent
if i press the recirc button i get plenty of air but cant keep it on for long as it mists the car up

any one had this one before ?

my car is a 52 plate 2.2 dti elite

    cheers
    Roy

as an add on to this,,has anyone got an idea as to where the inside temperature sensor is ?
i have been out and got a haynes manual, searched and searched for ideas on this fault and think the demist problem is a servo motor on the heater/ fan box (i could be wrong)
but when the heater is on auto, the fans go virtually off even with the temp set at 28 degrees (if i put it on hi the fans go full boar).
it has to read a temperature from somwhere but where ??
any ideas ? or am i barkink up the wrong tree !!?? lol !

Very common fault for misting up your screen, is water build up in the scuttle panel, which is where the pollen filter lives.
Lift the scuttle panel and check for water build up in here.
Clear any drainage vent points and renew your pollen filter.

cheers bud,,will have a look when its not too cold out there.
when i was looking for the outside temperature problem/fault i was having a look at how the heater works etc and it looks like this could be the problem.
i am going to my local dealer this week to pick up a water pipe so will get a pollen filter while i am there.

    thanks again for the help.
will let you know how i get on

I would look sooner rather than later.

Or the next thing you will be buying is a new fan motor

and the passenger side full of water.

Also check the filter isn't blocked.

Do you get any air at all to the vents or the screen when on fan 7 if you direct it manually?

It could be a dodgy servo motor. the screen one is the upper most one in the passenger footwell behind the plastic cover that would be on the right of your foot as you sit in the passenger seat. take the cover off and play with the air settings to see if it still moves.

The recirc button will make the misting up worse as it just used the air in the car, also you can't have this button on when its on de-mist for the fogging up reason. As soon as you pust demist with the recirc button it switches it off until you re-direct the air.

    Re-circ is not a/c.

    have you read your manual?
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    fwar !
as you guys said, poped the bonnet and opened up the flap on the scuttle panel (whilst the engine and fan was running as was defrosting the car) . popped the 2 plastic clips off the side of the filter and it amazed me how hard the fan was pulling the filter back ! i pulled it out and my god was it dirty !!! straight away i could see the fault was the pollen filter severly blocked.
upon removing it the air was considerably much better and now the quick clear on the front screen works 1000 times better.
    well chuffed !
i also cleaned out the rubber drain in front of the filter as was blocked with loads of dirt (supprising as how big the drain is)
will get a new filter tommorow.

    cheers guys, well impressed !!!

    confused

I've had the same problem on mine, checked the pollen filter and drains etc, everything is clear and looks ok. However once I take the filter off and peek inside I can see a large plastic flap type thing that looks like its blocking the air intake completely, looks like its sealed shut from the inside ???

I plan to take blower apart tomorrow as it needs replaced but I'm also having the same re-circ issues. the servo motors seem a bit steep at £60 odd, is there any other fix for this ?

That plastic flap is what moves when you press the recirc button. It stops out side air and recirculates the cabin air
