Thumbs up New to Vauxhall after 10 years of Ford

    Hi all

After being a Mondeo man for almost 10 years, I recently bought a Vectra. I'd never really considered a Vectra before, but after looking closely at what I could get for my money, I was very impressed with how good value the Vectras are.

I ended up buying a 2.2 Elite on an 06 plate with 50K on the clock and I have to say that after a somewhat shaky start, it's really grown on me! It's got just about every bit of kit you can imagine and it doesn't half shift! I have a 25 mile drive to work, most of which is up the motorway and it's absolutely ideal. It was also about £3K less than the equivalent Mondeo.

When I bought the car, I drove it 30 miles home, but stalled it when putting it on my drive and the damn thing wouldn't start again! The garage where I bought it took it back and it turned out that the cam inlet had developed a problem while I was driving it home. This had damaged the timing chain and several other parts of the engine. It ended up having over £1500 of work done to it (at the garage's expense, of course!) So now, although my Vectra says 50K on the clock, it's pretty much got a brand new engine in it. Not bad for £5.5K!

I'm looking forward to chatting with other Vectra owners so I can share hints and tips from things like insurance to spare parts to types of shampoo and polish.

Here's a pic of my new car:
