Default Big time engine trouble & advice needed !!

Ok, here we go. Bit drawn out his one. A few weeks ago, the water pump bearings failed on my 1.9Cdti 150 (80K), so the timing's immediately screwed and the cyl. head had to come of to check the valves etc. Anyway, they're all straight and survived, but all 16 cam followers are shot. So, after all new bits (pump, headset, followers etc) + £970 bill, I collected the car from the MAIN DEALER!. Anyway, it wasn't right immediately (sounded rough + low on power), no turbo kick in etc... and 10 miles down the road it went into limp mode with a fault code. Drives like a 600cc Smart.

Now the MAIN DEALER is saying the new and improved cylinder head has caused the swirl valves to fail and want another £500 to fix it..?? Does this sound right? Before the water pump bearing failure, there was no problem with power output, turbo, EGR etc etc so how come now the swirl valve is shot, ?? Doesn't sound right to me.........Any engine boffins around to confirm this theory?? pleeeeasseeee ??

No the dealer is talking total rubbish. When the water pump fails on the 1.9 16v, the rockers are designed to break.

You don't even need to remove the cylinder head to replace the rockers. My dealer did one the other week and the owner got a £550 bill.

So one has 100% nothing to do with the other.

forgot about the aoto-busting cam followers!!, most vx if not all have this feature (built just strong enough to break under undo pressure).

The same happened to my car,the VX dealer said they had to replace 8 valves and 6 rockers on mine, when I got the car back it was dead as well, couldn,t believe how bad it was, went back had a bit of a arguement, ended up needing a EGR valve which helped some but it's still lacking in power below 2k revs, they also said I need a new manifold, the manifold was ok until they got there hands on it I said, robbing b******s,I hate them with a passion.

Back to dealers with a vengence,no good engineer will hand over a rebuild engine without checking all parts as he rebuild's,it should have been roadtested or on a rolling road before passing on to the customer.the responsibility is with the repairer to make sure all parts fitted are suitable.a fault at 10 miles is just not acceptable.

The thing that puzzles me, is that the head and inlet manifold should not even be removed to replace broken rockers.

    Thanks guys. Comments appreciated.

When I go to pick it up, I think I'm going to get one of the mech's to come out with me in it before i cough up anymore. If it's not right, I'll have to check my legal position I suppose. For this reason, I'd better not name 'n shame just yet in case i compromise myself.
