    Default tyre advise pls

    hi i have 18 inch wheels and am just wandering what the best size tyres are for comfort and grip.

    The only two sizes you can run without having an adverse affect on your speedo are:

    215/40/18 or 225/40/18

    Personally I would go with 225/40/18 as they are wider (more grip) and will be proportionally thicker (side wall) so more comfortable!!

    You could of course go for vauxhalls recommended size of 225/45/R18

    It depends on what size the original tyres were!!

    If you had 16's on as standard the size would have been 215/55/16 which means using 225/45/18 will put your speedo out by nearly 3% (your speedo would read 60 but you would actually be doing 62).

    Not a massive issue I know but just a heads up!!

    Did you take into account that the speedo overreads by 10% anyway!
    I noticed this when changing from 215/50R17 to 225/45R17, the variance stayed the same!
    I love it when I drive towards "speed warning signs", speedo shows 45 and it flashes 40
    I even had the speedo checked by the calibration method and it was confirmed to be out by 12%

    it originally had steelies i think they are 16 inch,

    just checked and the ones on there at the moment are 235/40 r18, so does that mean that my speedo is out. how much should the vx recomended ones cost.

    Sorry to hijack thread but if you had 16" steelies on car before and changed to 225 40 18 would you need tech2 ?

    can be changed with tech 2 op com or vaux com to compensate for this
