Default Insurance / Mods / Business Use

    All,

Any of you guys out there have a tuning box / remap and have their car insured for business use.

I have just called Adrian Flux today (which I know some of you guys are with) and they basically told me they can't offer me insurance. As I was unable to tell the girl my new bhp she said they have no way of working out the % increase, and becuase I have the increased bhp and want to insure my car for up to 40,000 miles she said they couldn't help me.

I did tell her that the manufacturer of the box claims +25-30bhp increase making mine 180bhp tops.

So to the people with a box/remap and business use who do you go with

    Cheers

That's weird, I'm with Adrian Flux and have insured it for 12000 miles per year business out of my 30000 miles. I told them 185bhp and it was no problem.

Strange then, I told her about the tints and the spoiler etc.

To be fair, she did have to ask me what a tuning box was !!!!!

Might phone them back then and try and get a different agent.

The AA who were my cheapest last year want £865 before being told about mods. The Adrian Flux online quote came back at £625 with mods till I explained to her what a tuning box was and did

    Cheers

That is odd! I went to AF to get a quote and wanted covered for Business Use. They came back with a very silly figure and said it's because they don't really deal with that area - business use.

I'm with Direct Line (previously Eagle Star) and Business Use wasn't a problem with either. I've never mentioned my remap as it's effectively hidden and can't be seen so never 'tested' that area!

I think I'd better check with them. Watch this space.
