    Default weird possible ABS problem?

    hey guys,

I got a 1.9 CDTI 150 SRI estate, great car!

Have a little problem recently, and was hoping to shed some light on it before payday when I take it down to a garage.

The ABS light has recently come on, although the ABS still seems to work (easy to test that in the recent snow! - Although It's no snow mobile!)

The problem I'm having is when I first start the car and move off, the wheels make a grinding noise when I turn the wheel, and the steering is VERY heavy, as if the power steering is off... This is intermittent, although the grinding is always there...

Also I get some steering wheel judder at anything above 60.. Not in any way violant, just if I let go of the wheel it has a slight shake, and it's not always there either.

Do you guys think these problems are all related? Or have I just worn the old girl out? (nearly 80,000 miles since 2006!)

    Cheers

That symptom suggests the balance on one or front both tyres is out, quite common if the wheels are swapped rear to front, or more than 10K miles on an axle due to wear and tear
Get that done ASAP to prevent accelerated tyre wear (known as chatter)

The ABS is unrelated, requires an auto electrician

    thanks guys

I think wheel balancing would explain the wheel judder at speed... And the ABS problem I think is just down to all its recent use with the snow and needs a look at.

the only thing left is the wheel grinding when I initially pull away and steer, it happens even at 0mph just moving the wheel... like something has siezed up..

again might just be the cold weather, hopefully all is good!

once i've sorted all that plus the "SHEP - SHEP" sound that one of the belts makes whilst cold... AND the gear knob coming off... all is well! haha

Ouch! Still, at least you know what it was and it is fixed...
