Default Can spray painted wing mirror for the 1st time

    and the result was crap!!!

Been 3 days since I aerosol spray painted it and lacquered, but in between I did not wet/dry or sand inbetween coats, parts looked more darker than others and jet washed it today and the paint has peeled off back to the colour I got it off Vauxhalls (grey primer).

Something gone wrong there fella - I did exactly the same thing, i.e. bought a grey-primered cover and sprayed it myself, and the results are very good; a year and a half on and no one has ever noticed it's a DIY job.

I did however flatten it with soaked wet'n'dry paper after almost every coat, except the last topcoat and the 2 or 3 coats of lacquer. All in all it was about 10 coats.

About 45mins. My 2 problems are the weather (the wing mirror is on the car) and spraying too much in 1 area so it looks patchy and darker in places. Really ****ing me off the money I spent on it and Vauxhalls cannot even provide a silver lightning wing mirror!!!

Have you not tried popping the mirror covers off and get them sprayed in the kitchen where its warm... but the paint stripping off is kinda worrying. can only think theres a problem with the paint there... spraying in the cold too will make it duller then it should be...

If they where my covers i'd do em in the house, and bang them in the oven on a low heat in this weather between coats (leccy oven only)...

Not worth it IMHO. You are better off ebaying it and trying to flog your old one back on there for whatever it makes!

When you spray the base coat do not rub it down. just spray clear coat on top. then wet and dry it and then polish.

It is very unwise to attempt any spraying at this time of the year, unless the item can be removed to a warm area. The moisture in the air at this time of the year affects the paint and gives you the well known "orange peel effect". I managed to can spray my old Rover rear fender last year but only by taking it into the dinning room and sprayed it by the radiator, that went down very well with my wife she said it stunk the place out, myself I thought it added a certain charm for our guest's.
