Hi griffgrin you have the commonest fault with the 2.0 DTI ,s unlike xc600 post i would not go to the extreme of having it replaced .
If you know anyone with a tech 2 or an op-com have your fault codes read to diagnose the fault or take it to the stealers to have it read , will cost anything from £35 to £80 for stealers to do. failing that try cleaning the egr yourself and boost sensor yourself.
Remove the egr its only held on by 2 bolts and two hoses unplug your electrical connection and give egr valve a clean out with carb cleaner ,making sure the valve can lift freely .
While your there also remove your boost sensor and clean that up as well with carb cleaner
While your soaking the egr valve check all your hoses and vacuum connection,s for splits another common cause of vehicle going into limp mode these tasks will solve 90% of limp mode faults on the dti,s

Check all of the small vacuum pipes that run around the engine bay, sometimes the rubber ends can split

Check the vacuum pipes themselves as well and also check the large air pipes while you're under there.

It may be worth calling a dealer and seeing if your car needs the turbo re-calibration done.

I had mine done last week as it was and update and free although I wasn't having any problems. Good going VX - the car's only 7 years old!

Terry If you ,ve gone that far and still no joy it begs the question did you have it tech 2 ed at any time, and if you did what were the results
Some thing that will not show up on a tech 2 but will give you the same symptoms/problems is the actual vacuum actuattors themselves .
check to see if you have a vacuum at the outgouing port on each actuattor , there should be three of them each actuattor operates to 0.6 bar which is detectable with a wet finger . also check the vacuum pump on the end of the cam as i have heard of these going faulty as well.

Ok ive just checked smaller vacum pipes and there was one loose it was a white thin one that plugs into something next to the radiator it will now rev past 3000 rpm but still no guts and noisey. as for the tech 2 issue ive never had it done, to be honest it goes right over my head and no idea what it is or means, sorry if i sound a bit thick.

    Regards
