Default Whats the normal operating temp when moving?

Hi all - just wondering what the engine temp reading should be when on the move (not in traffic) with the Vectra C - mine moves all the way pointing left as if the engine is cold but when in traffic it will steadily rise to pointing straight up. Is this normal?

Last car i had the temp guage just stayed around half way whether in traffic or on the motorway...

It should read cooler when on the move due to the cold air going through the engine.

In this weather mine is around 70 degrees when on the motorway and about 80 degrees in traffic, however in the summer it is about 85 degrees normal and 90-95 degrees in traffic, quite normal remeber the time of year there are lots of threads asking similar questions, it may not move at all depending on the length of journey.

The gauge should always read between 80-95 degrees on the move no matter what the weather , only thing is it takes longer to reach operating temperature from a cold start in these conditions. If your not getting that then I would suggest you change the thermostat

My 3.2 was sitting nicely about 83/84 as I came up from London last weekend - Outside temp was showing between +2c and -3c through the journey.
In general terms through the year's temperature it seems to hover somewhere between the 85-90 markers.

Mine sits at 88 pretty much all the time either cruising at 80 or stationary, but thats only since changing the stat at the weekend and flushing the coolant.

I thought if it dropped all the way down on the temp gauge it meant that the thermostat was gone? Even when it was minus 18 here at 40mph it wouldnt really go below 80. Just took a long time to get there! It usually sits just under half way, but in Italy when it was red hot it was at around 92/93.
