Default Oil in Throttle Body 3.2v6

I had the intake off my recently acquired GSI the other day and saw some oil in the Throttle body. It appears to be coming from the breather pipe how do I solve this? Should I be worried?

The breather pipe is just venting oil vapor from the cam covers, its normal mate. If its lost of oil then there might be a problem but just a little is fine.

    That was a fast reply!

There was more than I expected (small pool freshly deposited) but I won't worry unless it gets worse.

    Thanks.

As per my GSi, I'm guessing you're talking about the breather pipe that runs from the TB, along the front bottom cam cover, down the side of the engine and terminates down near the crankcase?

Believe me, and I've yet to be successful, if the breather pipe hasn't ever been disconnected fronm the crankcase, you might find that removing it for a clean is a pig as the rubber hose, in my case, seems to have stuck solid to the crankcase spigot. There's little room to work in down below and I'm not able to prise the hose off. Mine's full of poo but regular cleaning of the TB does help.

Decided to take my oil breather off to clean it but no matter how much I tried it would not come off. I noticed it had started to perish so ordered a new one.

Ended up having to cut the old one off, you were not joking when you said you could not get it off!

Have you got a part no. and price mate?

Having looked at mine again a couple of days ago and failed again to remove it, I'd agree with you that cutting it off is the only way forward.

So, the breather pipe to the TB is for crank case ventilation & not the cam covers?

Yes - on the 3.2 V6 if you trace it back from the front of the TB (it points horizontally towards the rad), it runs across the front cam covers and disappears down the back of the engine, between the gearbox and bulkhead, ie. top of the crankcase.

I think I'll have to put a pic up to explain.

As an aside, when I last checked my TB, there was an orange colored gunk in there. I can only think that this has come about because about 1500 miles ago when the engine oil was old (10k), I had a noisy tappet/valve. I added some Wynns or STP valve lifter stuff (didn't have time to change the oil) and the noise went away. I've since changed the oil (to 10W-40) and the valves still ain't tapping but still got this orange/rusty gunge. So do need to replace the breather.
