Thanks for the help lads, the car is a 19 cdti...I got some work done a while back and at the time had noticed a pipe of at the back of the Manifold,I know there was two pipes leading up from the breather tank (I think its called),so I brought it over to the stealers and pointed this out and he said yeah that would have gave the same code as the EGR valve,so this is the way they left it,there could be no harm done but they seem to be bypassing the breather tank completly why ???..cheers

Hi the vacuum box is at the front right of the engine bay on your front bumper look at the sticky thread at top of this section shows vacuum pipes and box

the thick rubber pipes next to
your egr are the oil breather pipes from your crank case and cam shad breather that goes into your oil seperator which is the black round container with about 4 pipes going into at the back left of your engine
and you can vent your breather system to atmosphere with
no probs and no fault codes look at my thread in here for diy oil catch tank for pics

That u bend pipe I have no
    idea of sorry

    Hope this helps

you are talking about the vacum box just below the 'u' pipe shown in the pic!, the pipes go to a valve mounted on the right by the radiator, dont know why they have done this ?.
