    Default Towbar questions

I've read througha fair few of the older posts about the towbar fitment to the Vectra C and the use of Tech 2 to enable the lights functions.

I'm a little confused as to why this is actually necessary, as there is nothing about this procedure in the Witter fitting guide.

My car is a 2003 2.2 Elegance Hatch if that makes any difference.

All advise and information gratefully recieved.

Unlike older vectra B's the lights are monitored by a computer..it knows if a bulb has blown and it also knows if an extra load ( trailer or caravan) has been attached to the lighting curcuit..

you can't simply cut into the back of the lights anymore, there is a dedicated socket on the rear fuse board, and a socket for a special relay pack..

I fitted a witter fixed bar to my 04 GSi and then used the VX single electric pack to wire it..hardest job was finding my 40mm holesaw to get the grommet through the back panel..then it's all plug and play..The instructions said to get it tech2'd to tell the car it was there, but mine didn't actually need it..seems some of the 1/2 CANBUS cars have it factory enabled, just waiting for the sockets to get used..

If i was putting on another bar, i'd still buy the VX kit..and as you're 1/2 CANBUS you may be lucky too..

You get a warning "bulb" on the dash when the wireing of the trailerīs position lights, isnīt separated in left and right side.

Somtimes (mostly?) the trailer-manufacters put the wireing from left and right side in the same stick, and the car "belives" one side is missing.

Itīs easy to check with conncted trailer ,engine cut of, and parking lights one side on ( with the indicator stick) then test the other side. If all the trailer-lights works when the car is on one side only ( and nothing works on the trailer when the car is on the other side) you must separate the wires in the "trailer-plug".

It doesnīt help with Tec2 and nothing wrong whith carīs trailer-connection

( Was this understandable? me english isnīt as good as it should be))

    Best regards

On my previous Vectra C, I used a towbar and electrics from TowEquipe, the electrics on this scotch locked onto the cars loom, but through a black box which they made to interface with the canbus. I did'nt really like this isea although it never gave any problems. Witter I beleive offer a copy of the Vauxhall plug in type.

I have used the Vauxhall detachable bar and electrics, both 12N and 12S and got tech 2 to make the system present on the can bus, never had a problem since.

I'm hoping to fit a towbar to my vec, I am going to want to have the 12S socket aswell as 12N. Do Vaux do one that plugs in. Is it that simple or more involved with the 12S?

    Thanks
    Rob

you can fit electrics without either buying expensive electrics that plug into the car, or having to Tec 2. Not as clean as the above method, but does work fine.

I posted on here a while ago how I did it.

The Vauxhall electrics are not too expensive to be honest, in total they cost me about Ģ26 more than an after market kit.

Both the 12S and 12N Vauxhall electrics just plug in, it took me about 20 minutes to do the electrics in total on the Vectra with Vauxhall kit.
