    Default Steering Control ECU

The Lemon isn't done with me yet!!

Despite my mechanic clearing the previous ECU faults from the car's computer, I still get intermittent problems with the steering! The dreaded wheel and exclamation mark sign have returned : This then went off again, and the steering returned to normal.

I'm losing patience with this car, I've only had it 8 days and it's been nothing but problems. The guy I bought it from is incommunicado all of a sudden.

Vx said I needed a Steering Control ECU and an alternator. Anyone know any breakers I can get these from, as I'd rather get them for next to nothing than pay an arm and a leg at Vx. I live in North London, my local breaker has nothing in yet, but quoted me £80 for an alternator. I dread to think how much the ECU will cost.

    Help!

I've looked everywhere but haven't found any places I can go.
Can anyone recommend a place I can get these cheap?

The question is though, do you want it done cheap or properly...?

I used a local mechanic and he didn't have a clue
Yes, appeared to save me £50, but three visits and the problem kept coming back
Decided to use a dealership for this first time, cost me £80 and was given the old part back
The local mechanic wasn't even close!
Then had an argument with local mechanic, "aye but I fixed it" (er, excuse me)

I'll ask him! Where is he based, I'll even take the car tomorrow! I've got lots of driving to do over Xmas so it'll be great to get this fixed once and for all. I don't want thus dragging on forever. Also I hope he can solve the way my Veccie drinks...

I have given in and have booked the car in to Vx Ilford. I'm sick and tired of this intermittent steering fault, and also I want them to check out the engine as it seems to run a little lumpy, and the consumption is a little worrying. I'll let you know what happens on the 29th Dec.

As for getting to Sheffield, the snow has put me off, and I'd hate for the steering to fail on the M1

thanx mate, where in Essex are u?

Since my first post, I've had no 'car/spanner' light, just each time the steering goes then I get the 'steering wheel / !' light come on, then it will suddenly go off and everything's fine again! It's as if there's a loose connection somewhere. Hopefully it's an easy (and cheap) fix when I head to Ilford. My mechanic cleared the previous faults off the system with his Tech2, but this looks like only Vx can fix the part behind the fault
