    Default Another thermostat/Glow plug thread

Hello guys right this morning i went to start the old girl up and it was -2 and glow plug light came on and all was fine, now 5hrs later after it had been standing in the freezing cold and was 0.5 went to start it up and guess what no glow plug lights Car started fine though ! any ideas ????

I went on a 30 min drive in which time the car started to heat up inside but temp reading didn't move, when i stopped i let the car run for at least 20 mins just to see if temp would rise but it never, now ive had this before when ive had heater on full and blowers on and temp barley moved but when i turned heating down and fan speed the temp started to move.

Question is do you think there's a problem with either temp gauge or thermostat ?

    Neither mate its completely normal,

If the blower is on full its blowing air over the heater matrix which basically does the same as the cooling fan does to the radiator.

Was the 30min drive around town? When I first got mine last year I thought the temp sensor was faulty so I decided to take it back. Half way down the dual carriage way to where I bought it from the guage bounced into life.

As for the glow plug thing, although you left the car for 5 hours the residual heat in the engine was still enough not to need the plugs

With the cold air blowing in the grill/outside temp in general i noticed my temp gauge flicker a tiny bit but then go back to not moving after doing a 40 mile trip but heaters work fine also glowplug light tends to come on in the morning and sometimes not for the rest of the day as the engine has heat still, i'd say its just the cold weather and not to worry sounds normal to me.... HTH mate

If puting on the heaters brings the temp gauge all the way back into the cold mark then yes there is a problem with it. My 1.9cdti is getting checked now as it is soooo very slow to heat up and when it does eventually move the minute I put heaters on it brings the temp back to stone cold which should never happen with any car. I am also getti ng **** poor MPG, around 37 which is being caused by the poor heating problem.

When you say the temp didn't move had it already reached 88 on the guage?

Mine always sat at 70 or 75, never any higher, Had the stat replaced today and now it sits at 88 even when cruising on the motorway at 80, and sat in traffic its the same.

Heaters are red hot now as well.

After speaking to my bro who has the same car as mine he says there could be a problem with the thermostat sticking, plus yesterday i had a problem starting my petrol gauge was showing just over 2 bars in red and i loaded car up with shopping, tried to start it and after the 4th try it started up with a puff of grey smoke,so i'm going to replace thermostat, glowplugs, leak off pipes
