    Default The end of SAAB.

A sad day, but when the Sale to Koenigsegg fell through, that was it:

I used to work for Saab. I dont see it being a big loss tbh. After all, the 93 was a rebranded vec.

I didnt used to mind Saab, but they destroyed the newest 93 and 95 versions as they look amazingly horrible.

Hopefully someone will come in and buy up the remains in a similar way to they did MG-Rover. Hopefully if it is Koenigsegg or Spyker Saab will go back to there old ways with regards grown breaking design and inovation

I don't think that will happen. Some of the intellectual property (designs etc.) will go to Beijing Automotive, and something looking very much like a 9-3 and 9-5 will get bashed out somehow in China, but the Swedish factory will close.

I heard it on the radio this afternoon. It will be a very sad day if it does happen.

It's really no surprise, given how long Saab continued to use GM2900 (Cavalier/Vectra-A and Vectra-B) platform, rather than move to the Epsilon (Vectra-C/Insignia) platform.

The Saab 9-5 should have been put onto Epsilon in 2002 rather than 9-3 which should have been put on the Delta (Astra-H).

The Chinese car manufacturer BAIC have already bought the rights and production equipment for existing Saab models.

the 9-3 used the vectra c platform from late 2002 when the new 9-3 came out,the first model 9-3 was cavalier based, the 9-5 used the vectra b platform and that stayed like that, the 9-3 is a vectra sized car,the 9-5 was supposed to compete with the next market up but is not much bigger than the 9-3,the 9-3 is actualy slightly longer than a vectra c and is 7" shorter than the 9-5

wikipedia also say that the 9-5 uses the GM2900 platform in the 9-5,i know for fact that the 9-5 is vectra b based as i used to work for a saab dealer and the 9-5 uses the vectra b suspension, the early 9-3 used the GM2900 platform and was based on the 93 on saab 900

GM2900 is the name for the platform used for Cavalier mk3/Vectra-A and Vectra-B.

The "new" 900, early 9-3 and all the 9-5 used the same platform (GM2900) although there are detail differences.

Too esoteric and leftfield to generate enough sales to make it viable. Simple economics. No wonder the Swedes didn't support it. Failed to compete with other 'executive' market leaders. Sad but true.
