    Default Squealing brakes

I changed the 4 discs & all the pads on my Vec estate last May, admittely with non GM parts...
Big mistaka to maka? The patern parts dont have ant squeal shims on them.

Can I stop the squealing can I f***

I have polished & copper greased the usual places.
The brakes dont bind just squeal...

Any ideas for a solution chaps?

    Cheers
    John

Only when you press the pedal, or even when you're not using the brakes?

I'm having this prob at the moment, they squell when cold under braking and everytime I turn left or right... Only after fitting new pads and discs up front... I'm assuming it's because my pads and discs haven't fully bedded in yet?

    Braking is silent.. funnily enough.
The squeal is when I'm driving along. It varies in pitch, sometimes more front than back and vice versa.
    very seldom quiet...

    Driving me bananas it is

If its doing it whilst your driving and not while braking and you can't stop it with copper grease, it could be a seized caliper.... I think its more likely they are not on quite right though....

Mine squeak when you brake (non GM hard pads) but fine once you've stood on them a few times!!

I fitted some EBC Ultimax pads recently.

The only pads fitted with shims on the back were the front inside ones. For these, I copper greased the contact points between the pads and calipers as usual.

For the pads without any shims, I copper greased the contact points between the pads and capliers (as usual) and also the backs of the pads (where the shims would be if they had any).

I've not had any squealing at all.

Fit new pads mate, its nearly the only answer. Aftermarket pads can be a couple of mm smaller than the genuine VX ones and that makes a big difference and no matter how much copper grease you use the sqeaking will continue.

    Been there done that

Ah,could be one of the cases were I have been pennywise & pound foolish.
I'll get some gen VX/GM pads, clean the calipers etc and check them as suggested.
    Ta for all your help
    Cheers
