Default Had to fool car into starting!

    Chaps,
Couple of weeks ago during frosty weather, my 150 cdti wouldn't start and had a big 'F' on the display.
Same thing happened today, frost weather, big 'F' (for frosty?), but i chucked some hot water into the grille where the outer temp sensor is causing the senso to warm up. Car roared into life!
Its as if the electonics are saying, 'no you don't - its too cold. Brrrrrrr!'
When it won't start, there is no mechanical movement, the electronics are stopping anything happening.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    LT.

You do know that if you scroll along the test where "F" starts it actually continues to read..OFF! In other words, its too cold, im a CDTI, wrap me up or I will not start, so " OFF!

Vaux-Man, you're a comedian! Same things have crossed my mind.

I don't think the temp sensor is faulty as the temperatures it reports for the outside temp appear realistic. It seems like there's something making the decision not to initiate start on an incorrect temp level.

I've had this car for 18 months now, through all the snow & cold last year with no probs. Now it seems when the outide temp dips too low, it goes on strike. It clearly can start OK, just needs lying to...

    Thanks Deztroyer.

From reading that, it sounds as if the sensor came unplugged from the loom - thinking back, my wife bumped the front end last spring, it may be falling into place!

I'm a bit confused though, if the temp sensor was unplugged/faulty, how come i see accurate temps reported on the display?

Make a CDTI 150 that is going to make them loads of money through dodgy and badly built manufacturer parts!

Yeah the ecu gets its temperature readings from the coolant temp sensor. You could disconnect the one on the bumper and it would still start
