Rear brake qestion.

Hi to all.

Hoping you can help.

The rears on my (56)150 are shot.
I could replace them with standered running gear, or replace them with up rated running gear, but...... what i want to do is change them for the 3LD (292)set up.
I had wanted to do the front brakes first, but the rears brakes have worn out first, & i'd hate to have to change them for standered stuff, & replace them latter with the 3LD gear, what a wast of £ it would be.

Question is:
Can i get away with replacing them with the 3LD calipers discs & pads, & replace the fronts at a latter date.

If it is possable to do, where would be the best place to sourse the stuff ? (unless some one is selling some).

I don't see any problem with doing the rears first. Some people will tell you this will affect the front-to-rear brake bias, others will tell you that you'll need to adjust the bias on the master cylinder - but I'm not sure anyone will put their hands up and say they have ever adjusted it themselves.

As for where to buy, your best bet would be to find them second hand, as the calipers and carriers will cost quite a bit. The disks and pads can be bought cheaply from Vauxhall, as they sell a £70+VAT "kit" which is 2 disks and 4 pads. If you buy the disks separate from the pads from Vauxhall, instead of as a kit, it's much more expensive. Hence the ideal plan would be to buy the calipers and carriers second hand, and add on the new disks and pads.

Is the master cylinder bias adjustable on a Vauxhall? That's very unusual for a road car.

The rear setup isn't actually that expensive I think. the calipers are about 50 quid each i think, carriers 30 each and the pad and disc set maybe 60 quid depending on where you go. A bit of a poke around car Parts Connexion might help, as there was some good stuff on there in relation to all this last time I checked.

Thank all for you replys.

I found the calipers about £50-60 on the net each unknown brand, and the carriers from vaxhall are about the same price as the calipers brand new.
I was looking at the ebc set up for the discs, & pads, as i'v used them before, discs £85, pads just under £50.

Is the part numbers in the previous post vauxhall No.?, also are the numbers the same for Saab, if they are, best get in there quick, now saab has gone bust.
