    Default 1.9cdti water temp

Hi. Has anyone else had this problem. I had a 1.8 petrol vectra and the temp went dodgy and I replaced the thermostat myself which cured the problem. The 1.8 petrol engine was at operating temp in a few miles. I have now recently purchased an SRI 1.9CDTI but it takes about 20 mins running time before the temp gauge moves and when it does move the minute I put the heater on it pulls the temp right back down the bottom of the temp gauge and heater is poor. The OBC says that I am getting 37 MPG. Is the running temp and MPG for the 1.9 CDTI normal.

    Thanks

No its not normal, diesels do take a while to heat up due to the nature of the engine construction. I'd be looking at the thermostat too
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Thanks. My CDTI is an 09 58 plate model and am not happy that the thermostat is needing changed with only 13k miles on it. Can you tell me on average how long they take to heat up and what kind of mpg around the doors I should get. I was getting around 36mpg with the 1.8 petrol and I thought the diesel would be much better. cheers

cars fitted with climate control have the air con switched on all the time ..so the cooling fans run all the time and over cool the engine *(fans run at a slow speed).....in the options list on the display there is a option to switch the aircon off .............other than that they do suffer with poor thermo stats ......but 13k is a little low for one to fail.....

Thanks all. My car doesn't have climate control. It has a seperate switch for the aircon cold air. I had the car out yesterday in the cold and after about 20mins running on motorway the temp moved to around 70 but the min I put heater on the temp dropped right back down to bottom of gauge and wouldn't move till I switched heater of and really started booting car. It is going into VX on wednesday to get the "heater" checked but I have told them that its the thermostat and not the heater as when it does heat up a bit the heater gets better. Thanks
