Default 1.8l Petrol - K&N Filter or Kit?

I have real issues with the pull away on my 1.8L (2006) Vectra. It almost konks out when I hit the biting point on the clutch. Is this a common problem with these?

I was thinking of maybe replacing the air filter (just because I have done it once before on a prev car and have zero mechanical experience). Was looking at the K&N filter but then saw they do a full 'kit'. What would people recommend? Or should I be spending my money elsewhere?

    Many thanks in advance....

I would spend your money getting the car looked at instead. Why change the air box/filter if the clutch is on its way out???

How long have you had the car? I'd say the problems are likely to be clutch, or clutch control. Maybe you just need to get used to the car. They're not very powerful beasts the 1.8 L's so not that difficult to stall.

i have the same car mate. 07 1.8vvt sri and i can say ive never had that problem. as the others have said it may be the clutch. my last car did that and very soon hey presto the clutch went!! i have the k&n panel filter aswell and i can say it does make a difference. not performance wise.. but it gets rid of those annoying mid range flat spots!

Vauxhall engines, and 1.8 in particular, don't like induction kits as they're sucking hot air from the engine compartment rather than cold air as the standard fit.

Induction kits can be made to work by installing them in a box and feeding cold air from in front of the rad but there's no advantage doing all that work compared to juist replacing the filter.

Personally I'd keep an OE filter but changed more often.

Still sounds like the clutch is on its way out, why not get it checked out?
Changing the filter to one of the ones that you hae to oil could in my opinion be risky, I would stick with the standard one , and just change it more often.
The air intake can be changed for one of the longer intakes off the larger engines.
