Default issue with coolant temp gauage

hi i have an issue with my temperature gauage. i have searched posts on here and would like ur ideas.

i have a vectra cdti 150 54 plate. the operating temp never seems to go much over 70 the last couple of days even when warm before was 80. id a 40 mile trip and it only reached about 74. i left idling and did slowly go to 92 but i didnt get the fan cut in. not sure what temp the fan should cut in.

i have the cdc opera and put it on test as advised in a post. the coolant temp on the test reads the same as the gauage. do you think it is a dodgy thermostat. i dont think its the sender. i still have hot and cold heating which warms up as normal. i think the pump is working as not overheating and im not losing water.

is it still ok to drive or could i be damaging it. any help is aqppreciated thanks lisa

    Yes, thermostat problem.
I had the same problem in my Veccy 2006, CDTI 150; The temp was only around 80 degrees, and most of the times at 78-80, and the additional heater was kicking in constantly. Also mpg was way up. (and probably future problems with the DPF as it will only initiate the clean-process with normal engine temp)

Replaced the thermostat a couple of days ago, back to normal temperature of 85-87 in normal driving conditions.
The new thermostat was of a different kind/new type than the old one, so GM/Opel have changed something.

Well, in this country everything is expensive.....
I do not know, probably 1+ hour for the job + £40 for the part???
In any case, it is worth the effort.

had similar problem, bought the part today, was 48 pounds including vat, 5l of coolant was just under 15, but he gave me a discount which made total 55 pounds, it was far cheaper to buy it from vauxhall than anyhwere else, bit strange

Good deal! -I think the thermostat is a known failure-point, and since they have started using a new type/new manufacturer, they want to provide good service and low replacement-cost.
