Wouldn't happen with a diesel mate - at idle the engine simply would get warm enough, and with the fan on pulling cold air in from the outside it'll jsut keep the engine cooler... Quickest way is just to start up and drive off...

Frost settles downward - is there anything you can park under ? If not the old sheet of something over the screen works well. At work on a late shift I move my car under a canopy when I can and it stays frost free. The other week I was working in Blackburn when it was really cold. Three of us stuck our cars under the canopy at 9pm. When we left at 10 past 6am the night crew who left at 6am were still scraping away and we were able to drive off. Parking under anything has to be worth a go where you can. I wonder how good trees are ?

Remote locking with the spare won't work while the ignition is on.

However you can manually push the locks down on the rear and passenger doors and use the spare key in the drivers door to lock. The car isn't double locked and the alarm isn't on so be cautious!

I do this every frosty morning and the car is clear all round in about 10 mins - I drive a 1.9CDTi [150]

VERY VERY VERY luke warm water is the best thing, too hot and you will crack your windcreen.

Thats what I do and seems ok, I just use roo temperature water

Same here, just take the chill off cold water and pour it over the windows, defrosts and demists.
