If your car is pre facelift before 05 which it will be 2.2 dti. You can use semi no problems. facelift is fully only.

Have a look at Opie Oils aka oilman - there's loads of information there.

Go by viscosity, eg 5W-30, standard, eg ACEA-B4, and manufacturers specification if applicable.

    Semi-synthetic isn't semi - that presumes 50:50 - it's part-synthetic which can be anywhere from 1:99 to 99:1.

Why go into all this s---. Just read what VX say they say in all prefaclift handbooks that you can use semi and in facelift only use full. That was easy was't it.

    What viscosity? What ACEA grade?

Vauxhall will ALWAYS tell you to have ALL work done at a Vauxhall workshop using Vauxhall parts and materials - but few have that sort of money!

You can buy vx oil on ebay. its very good oil I think its suppied by mobile. I supply mates with a landrover disc and a passat tdi and they both say the engine is quieter using the vx oil. But as long as you use the correct grade that Vx say you have no problem what make or price. Its all up the cost and choice.

Their website says that the fully synth 5w/30 should be used in all Vec-C's from 2002 onwards

It doesn't say "fully synth" or anything else about synthetic oil - it states:-

    2002 onwards - 5W-30 - ACEA A3 / B3 - ECOService
    GM-LL-A-025, GM-LL-B-025 - ECOService Flex

    2006 onwards - 5W-30 - GM-LL-A-025, GM-LL-B-025 - ECOService
