    Default odd tyre

got the garage I am buying a 57 plate vectra sri 150 from to agree that one of the back tyres was on the limit and they should put a new one on for me as part of the deal. It had goodyears all round but they have changed the one on the back for a cheap brand (I never heard of it).
Are they allowed to do this?

I assumed they would put another goodyear tyre on to match the rest of the car!!

    not great... Not illegal though..

and it sounds like your agreement was..

To replace the tyre with a new one...

Do what i do in these situations... explain that the misses is not happy and that you cna understand the confusion but its prooving hard to explain to her and is there anyway they will put a NCT on so that you dont have such a headache when u get home etc etc.

Works 9 times out of 10 for me

This is what garages do, they fit the cheapest rubbish going.... It's always better to knock the price down than let them fit what they want. They'll then proceed to do what the tyre shop guys do (at the big tyre/exhaust places, not the smaller specialists) and say that all tyres are the same (which without being snobbish, explains why they fit tyre's all day).

This back tyre at a guess used to be the front O/S tyre, until they got the car. They change them over because most people check the front tyre's for signs of hard driving.... Especially on anything sporty looking.

As it's already done, deposits paid and the paperwork signed etc.... I'd put up with it for now, and think about changing the tyre in a few months.

You probably won't notice the difference yourself, but im a firm believer in having the same rubber on all four corners.... I expect my car to handle the same whether im going left or right. MY 306 had an odd cheep tyre on the front and under hard braking the ABS would kick in too early because that tyre was losing grip quicker than the other.

If it was a Goodyear NCT5 that they replaced, then they did you a favour. You've just now got to get rid of the other 3 NCT5's and you'll find your car will handle a whole lot better.

its just annoying and worrying how garages (Hyundi dealer) will try and cut corners to save costs. I think it needs new front disc and pads (done 44k miles) but they are having none of it. The sales guy said....anything that needs doing will be done..........

It's not illegal, or unusual at all - I can understand why you're not happy about it though - as said don't ever get dealers to fit tyres - even when you get what you want the cost is exorbitant.

Reminds me of the admin manager at a company I worked at - "I've negotiated a company-wide deal at XYZ Tyres which will give us 33.3% off list price, plus fitting" he proudly proclaimed - until I told him of a different place which abandoned list price years before and gave Joe Public 50% off, including free fitting.

got to a branded brake place and ask them how long u have left on those pads and discs... then go back to the garage and tell them.

Yes... But you'll probably walk out believing you need new brakes all round, a new exhaust system, new shock absorbers and another new tyre
What you really need is someone who has nothing to gain or lose by telling you the truth

Unfortunately this is the way it is mate..

you asked for a tyre you got one..

A garage wont want to put out ANY money on a car unless they have to..this is how they make the money..

as for your discs and pads no matter how low they are as long as they will pass a mot, you will get the car the way it is..Thats just the way it is i am afraid.

they will make sure the car is leagal that way all their bases are covered..

tbh my wife will nip my head wont work.
