Default Broken down today of all days.

Just been towed home after my car started to feel lethargic and run a touch warmer than usual, Also, I've never never seen it smoke as much before.

We were sat on the Hard Shoulder for 40 mins in the direct sunshine, with no water or suncream in the car, as we'd only popped out for a few moments. Not only that, but I was kind of hoping to watch a football match today! Instead I'm sat here on my computer trying to calm down a bit. To say I'm annoyed is an understatement.

Recovery driver came out, started the car, revved it, saw the smoke and declared " I'm no expert, but it looks like somethings happened to the turbo. "

As you may remember, the car has been off the road for turbo / engine management problems for 7 days last year, all they did was update software.

To you mechanics out there, does this sound like turbo failure? I'm bluddy sure it is, To say I am going to have a heated exchange with Vauxhall on Monday just about covers it. This time I am going to lose my temper properly, as the nice understanding Andrew, looks like he's been having the pi$$ taken out of him....

    Any help gratefully recieved.

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate

Loss of power and lots of black smoke would suggest turbo failure or air intake problem to me.

Higher engine coolant temp may also come with this, overfueling which would happen due to insufficient air entering engine would cause fairly quick temp rise.

Did it boil up or just get hot?

Did it seem to happen while engine under load/acceleration or pulling uphill?

    Any engine management lights?

Sorry to hear about that, but id be worried when the recovery guy said "im no expert", you would think they would atleast have basic mechanical knowledge/training.

oh by the way, we won 1-0 lol. Come on England!!!!

    Ditto Robbie.

Sounds like turbo failure to me. You still in warranty?

Just!! It didn't boil up, it was just a bit warmer than usual, I opened the bonnet and looked at the turbo ( why I don't know, it's not an item you can fix at the side of the road, but anyway... ) and it was almost glowing! It was really lethargic and there was literally clouds of black and grey smoke out the back.

What hacks me off most is that I've had it in three times now telling them that the turbo is faulty on this car, each time been told we've updated the software, it'll be fine now. Today I'm stood on the side of the M4, with my wife, slowly getting sunburned as it wasn't safe to stay in the car. This will be another angle I introduce on Monday when someone gets another ****ty e-mail.

Oh and to answer the no expert question, He was sent out to recover the car, which he was told was a non starter.

Thankfully I had the fabled third year AA cover from Vauxhall. I will be renewing that in September..... If I keep the car after this.

This will be the THIRD time I've bypassed the dealers and gone to Customer Services.

    On Monday, I will be insisting on the following;

    1. The car is repaired, new turbo fitted, not a reconditioned one and the part left for me to see when I pick up the car.

    2. All ancillary parts to the turbo, to be replaced.

    3. Engine flush and oil change.

    4. Extension to the warranty, at Vauxhalls expense, to provide me with some faith in the car.

    5. Compensation, to cover the fact my wife and I were stood on the side of the motorway, in danger, being frazzled and dehydrating. Sharon was terrified at the side of the road, it bought back very painfull memories of a crash that nearly killed her some years ago. She was physically shaking, despite it being near on 30 degrees.

Had they have just done the job I asked them to in January, they could have avoided all this.

If I do not recieve satisfactory service, I will contact Every member of Vauxhall at director level, The directors of Inchcape Group and the local press, telling them exactly what I think of them.

This happened at about 13.00. As you can tell, I am still absolutely furious.

Give it too them mate, that is extremely poor service, and left both of you in Danger due to(in my humble opinion) a failure by Vauxhall to do their job properly and meet their obligations to you as a customer.

Perhaps a very sternly worded letter from a solicitor may be called for.

Or a link to this thread in your e-mail.

Vauxhall could learn so much about customer care from the views of members on here.

Perhaps it may be worth Admin inviting a customer service rep from Vauxhall to Join the site
