Don't they cost a fortune for a turbo upgrade? I figured it'd be cheaper to buy a 2.0T than to fit one.

I'm sure the turbochargers cost up to 4 grand or so. Should price up partexing yours for a 2.0T SRI or something, probably be cheaper I think standard petrol engines are pretty limited for tuning, only the usual stuff like the air filters, exhausts, induction kits and that, is no remaps or anything like that

If I had 4 grand I would be getting a turbo conversion as it would be 1 of a kind and it would be getting tuned further. So it would eat 2.0t BSRs for breakfast

Not BSR Stage 4 or 5 it wouldn't. BSR Stage 1 is merely an adrenaline boost to a stock engine, not a rebuild.

OK it would be a project and a half but the potential expense and pitfalls would be enormous.

I have every admiration for anyone brave enough and with deep enough pockets to take such a project on. I suspect the original poster would soon be divorced if he did.

Well we will see but I reckon it would smoke it

As Pre facelift 2.0t is limited to stage 3.

Also from what I have learned the 2.2 is capable of far more

I take your point about the pre-facelift 2.0T being limited to Stage 3.

As for the 2.2, it would take a lotta wonga to get a lot more out of it, but it certainly is possible, according to Rushy and the devotees on the 2.2 forum.

The beauty of the Stage 1 turbo remap is that you just 'plonk it on' and away you go.....no other changes required . Getting the same sort of power increase out of a n/a engine at the same sort of cost is simply not possible.

But if you got the wonga, anything is possible.
