just driven from work in arborfield up to my mums in luton , halfway along the m4 the wipers decided to sit at what they thought was home , but it wasnt it was in the middle of the screen ,

just checked the how 2 and realise i may need a new wiper motor

This is typical of cars where the previous owner has turned the wipers on while frozen to the screen.
(the wiper not the driver )

May just need retightening, if your lucky. :\

My old astra g had this problem , so I took the motor apart ( the position sensor is in there and had snapped off) , so I creatively soldered a bit of solder on to make a new contact bar , worked a treat for me , I cant imagine the vectra would be too different.

At least they're still working and the strain hasnt stripped the splines off the motor shaft.... happened to my bro's cavalier after they'd been frozen to the windscreen and he hadn't freed them before switching on

Mine did exactly the same thing when I was not paying attention and set them going while stuck to the screen. They did eventually free themselves and because they didn't move for 2-3 seconds they thought they were at the bottom when they were half way across the screen!

They eventually fixed themselves and I didn't have to do anything apart from turning the engine off while they were wiping and eventually they found their resting place!

I wouldn't take anything apart but just leave them be and I think they will eventually go back to normal!

just to clarify it wasnt caused by the wipers being frozen to the screen , they just started playing up while driving down the m4
