    Default Rear Brakes

My 2008 Vectra Elite 1.9CDTi has done just over 30000 miles, mostly on the motorway. To my surprise I heard the rear brakes grinding when slowing down on a motorway slip road, costing me new discs and pads !

The work was carried out by my local Vauxhall dealer (£193 inclusive of Trade Club discount on parts) and the Technician showed me the offending pad (O.S.R. inner pad) that was completely down to the metal.

I have had loads of cars but never one that wears out its rear pads before its front pads - so be warned !!!!!

The rear tyre rumbling is also starting again after new tyres were fitted only 3000 miles ago.

I am starting to go off this car.

Had the same happen to my '57' SRi 150 last month at 29,000 miles. It was the exact same pad that was down to the metal.

The other 3 pads still had about 2-3mm of material still left.

The car was only serviced in July (at 26,000 miles) and the garage reported all pads to be fine. The garage was Arnold Sharks, so might not be such a suprise.

I will be keeping a close eye on the wear of the rear brakes from now on.

That's a shocking price for just new pads and discs mate. Granted I do my own work in that area but considering the cost of the pads and discs themselves that really is extortionate...

seems a common thing on the vec. My old 3.0 had rear pads replaced at about 40,000, front ones went on to 50,000. I queried it on here at the time, and it seems to be very common.

Anyone know what the brake bias is on the Vec C's?? Could this have any bearing on the wear?

I replace mine every winter...pads and discs should be around £60 for 292mm ones in a trade club....fitting extra of course.

can confirm the same with me - 45k miles and had grinding from rear wheels, diagnosed as new discs and pads needed for back.

Now 70K motorway miles and fronts still original.

2.2 Direct Hatch 57 plate. Vaux dealer did mine and said it is common issue, but didn't know why. I wondered if it had to do with the handbrake causing the pads to run a bit too close to disc. Adjusted up a bit high from new possibly?

    Nah, fitting isn't extra...it's a DIY job.

The rear pad is tiny compared to the fronts even on 285 set up, so they wear much faster. I change my rears every MOT but i'm only on my second set of pads on the front. (62000 miles.) I've found the main problem is dirty slider bolt shafts, I clean and lube them up every time, this seams to help the outer pad wear about the same as the inner.
