Default my abs/traction light but locknut query

    Hi guys,
ok so as some of you may know ive been having an issue with my abs and traction control.
it first started where on a cold morning the abs and traction light came on and when off while driving and then came on again but at one point it then dissapered when the engine was turned off and back on again.
the a day later the lights then came back on and stayed on!

so i went to the garage and they told me its most likley the abs sensor, they plugged it into the machine and they said the passenger side.
so i went and bought a new hub etc and fitted it but its made no differance! so ive been driving about with no traction control (murder!!) and no abc (scary!).
now i cant afford to but a new hub as its like £150 alone!
    heres the question.

i have 1 locknut on the driver side that snapped the actual locking key so thankfully ive not had any punctures on this wheel, its the vauxhall kind where its like a star inside the locknut..
now rather than pay £30 for a damn key, does any one know if the halfords laser locknut set would be able to take this off so that i can check this wiring and hub etc? i still have the passenger side hub that i fancy plugging into the driver side and see if that would make the light go off or at least check the wiring..

i need to get this done before the snow hits us and its a constant worry.
    any suggestions guys?

thier are lots of devices for removing locking wheel nuts we use a snapon one which is effective but unfortunatly in quite some distance from you so really its a case of trial and error.
on the abs side i would check the wiring as alot of members will allready know they get corroded in the connectors and break wires

If your locking wheel nut has a spining collar, then you'll have to force that off before you can try the Halfords product.

i dont think its a spinning collar lock nut as its fixed, no moving parts on it..

im going to check the wiring but the garage told me for sure that this unit had failed, hence why i spent cash on a new one! damn cars!!

rite guys, just back from the garage to see if the code needed reset after me changing the bearing but suprise suprise the code is still thier and returning.
im told either its the way ive done the repair (yeh rite!), its a wiring issue, or maybe some kind of connector problem, but apparantly its saying its the n/s/f abs sensor at fault.
anything common on these for these problems? driving on ice with no abs aint cool! Get it? lmao.
    anyway, any ideas lads??

Did the garage say in which the sensor had failed?
Open circuit ? - corroded connector pin or broken / chafed wire perhaps.
weak signal ?- is the air gap distance between toothed ring and the pick-up adjustable ?

For the wheel removal, you could pm a few trustworthy forum members in your area to see if they have the same key type and number as you.

Obviously DON'T post your key number on the public facing forum.

at first they told me the unit had failed so i bought a new one, but that has NOT fixed the damn problem.
they said it could be a wiring issue, but it is the n/s/f so i dont think i have to worry about the locknut for now.

i think i read somewhere their were wires for it behind the wheel arch lining that were common failure?
    dunno what els to try.
    thanks for the reply!
