Red face I think front spring has gone!

Well I think the front passengers side spring has gone? Drove off the driveway this morning and got round the corner (in the dark) to hear the front suspension do it's usual creak, creak but then it went BANG and I heard what sounded like a spanner falling onto the wheel and hit the wheel arch then dingle dangle down the road. Turned round to go have a look to see what it was but could see nothing. The ride height is the same so I am presuming that the spring has broken round the bottom.

The car drives fine and can't find any fault. Will go to my local garage tonight and get them to have a look I think. It might be time to get the eibachs on that I have had in the garage for a while now. I might even get the front struts replaced while I’m at it. I replaced the rear shocks last weekend after they leaked all over my drive.

Not sure if I should maybe have a go at replacing them myself? I have the spring clamps from my father in law. Just need to buy a trolley jack and some stands.

Should I do myself or take to garage? how many hours labour do you think they will charge me for?

Probably be about 2 hours for a garage, so around £100-£130 dependant on their labour charges, but it really isn't a big job, me and my old man did mine and did it in a morning, that included one of the front ones falling off and leaving me stranded in the street while I was turning it around (so one side got done in the road!!).

I plan to get to the garage at some point this week as just found out am working late Wed - Fri as we have a vendor coming onsite at work to do some stuff (Technical Term) which is annoying.

The rear springs were only replaced about 5 months ago so hope it's not them. Don't you hate these dark afternoons?

About 6 months ago, my local independant checked/cleaned my discs and pads (there was grinding noise, turned out to be a bit of metal from the road wedged in disc) and fitted new n/s front spring for £75

Vauxhall wanted 220 or something stupid for the spring fitted.
