I have a 1.9CDTi SRi (150) - realisticlly, if I put a K&N pannel filter in my car to place the standard one put in after full service - is their any real benifits?
Many thanks...

Well for a start it will re-open this can of worms!
Popular thinking is to remove the little guide inside the lower section of the airbox - to improve airflow..... and fit a K&N panel filter..... again to improve airflow.
Many drivers of them there oil-burners do seem to feel that this de-restricting does reduce/remove the flatspots in engine performance.
Having done both to my 3.2 I am quite happy that it improved rev pickup (even if only slightly) and it certainly hasn't degraded consumption or caused any faults.
On a purely financial note, 1 K&N panel filter is about £45 and survives at least 40,000miles before being cleaning and reused.
1 paper element can cost anywhere from £10-20 and is commonly replaced annually.
If nothing else, it works for me just in money terms!
Only you can make the choice though
In a word.........................No, you will see more benefits on Petrol cars due to the open/close throttle.
Diesel's run open throttle so a regular change of standard filter at about £8.00 a throw will run just as well. Putting more air in on a diesel doesnt really make thinks improve as a diesel get's extra power by putting in more fuel.
I tried a K&N Filter, but to be honest didn't notice a thing.
Save your money!
Plan to do this, but will probably keep up with my vauxhall service history... if have one fitted can you request that bit leaving off the service etc?
Well, two sides of the coin indeed... Thanks both but the deals been done and should get one in the post any day soon. Did not mean to open can of worms but some times you've just got to ask.
Air box mod is already done and I could also notice a slight difference in first gear mainly (which is where its needed)...
Will see for my self soon...
Many thanks
Yes - I will be telling them to leave alown during my future services'...
not a clue, yet...
