My insurance (Churchill) said I must send ASAP, and was insured beforehand, just trustworthy. I guess if you said you was gonna, and never, they'd just wipe you off!

Yeah you will need to send them the certificate of NCB you get when your insurance is up with your current insurer. If you dont have one phone your previous insurance company they should re-issue you one I imaginw for an admin fee.

Could be either, depending on the company - some demand it up front - some wait until you make a claim.

I have found brokers very useful at helping to get information out of un-cooperative insurers

As you should have received a renewal notice, does it state on it your current NCD entitlement?

That may not count as NCB as you were only a named driver. Certain insurance carriers will accept named driver policies as entitlement to No Claims Bonus but many wont.

As for when you need to give the evidence - insurers will want the evidence ASAP after you take out the policy (I don't know of any who will wait until a claim). If they haven't had confirmation within a 'reasonable' period of time, they will either cancel you policy or charge your credit/debit card with the amount you would have paid if you didn't have the NCB.

Best bet is to ring your insurer and discuss the situation. If they are willing to accept the named policy as NCB they may offer to call your old insurer for verbal confirmation.

    Hope this helps.

I worked for eSure 6 months ago and our policy was that if you started a new policy then you didnt have to send your NCD. Most insurance companies are tight on it but others i.e. eSURE, Shelia's wheels, halifax, sainsburys(all part of esure) aren't. Either way your renewal that says 5 years(or w.e.) is still valid proof! Doesn't take long to fax it over or to post a copy and its done for another year then!
