    Its in tha manual iirc

Also you check the level after the engine has been running, I believe there should be a sticker on the slam panel indicating how to do it correctly.

I find there is very little difference between checking oil on cold or warm

Anytime I check the oil the oil is always up the dipstick. And before any1 says its over oiled - it does not put out any blue smoke and I can switch the engine off no bother.

The dipstick is completely uselss imo.

There probably is a slight difference as oil expands when warmer.

The reason I mention this is because on my BMW E90 3 series the petrol versions do not have a physical dipstick at all.

It has a electronic sensor using some form of thermal strip device in the sump, it then gives a oil reading on the computer display, ie. showing the minimum marks and also a max position, and is easily to see if it's over filled.
I notice on mine at the moment that for the first few miles until it's warmed up it will show one segment below the max mark on the graphic display, but once its fully warmed up, it then shows on the maximum mark, so I am assuming that oil must expand slightly when warm.

Though obviously the angle of the car should idealy be fairly level, it does'nt seem to make a lot of difference to the readout on the BM, not that I've noticed anyway. Possibly due to the engine being further back perhaps.
