Default Plasma TV Issues-Can anyone help?

    Hi Folks,

I have a 50" Samsung Plasma TV sat at home with a little problem.

Firstly, this TV was given to me by a friend who could not be bothered getting it fixed as he doesnt have the money, so he has managed to replace it with a lower down model and asked me to shift this for him as he didnt have a car big enough.
Technically, I didnt pay anything for it as he owed me a BIG drink for helping him out with car troubles and as he was about to chuck this TV out, I said i'll take it and we'll call it quits, if I get it working then my gain, if not then i'll sell it for spares or repairs! It owes me about £175.00.

OK, now the problem, basically, the TV comes on and so does the sound, BUT when the images come up all I get is a black screen with tiny colourful dots appearing here, there and everywhere.
These dots are few and far between but they are all various colours. It looks as though the image behind is trying to come out to the forefront but doesn quite make its way (oh and by the way, the item on the TV was the kiddies program "Handy Manny" so that may describe the colourful dots)!

I have the remote for it, but im convinced its not the right one as he has young kids and this was his third Samsung TV, so ! Also, the box and manuals were all inadvertedly disposed of by his better half so I managed to download it but that done tell me anything about the problem!

Here is a bad image of whats going on!

Im pretty certain the model number is: PS50A456 (or something like that-it was dark and I couldnt see).

I have asked someone and they said to me it looks to be the screen, in which case its not worth the hassle, so I though I would see what £££ I can claw back from it as a Spares or Repairs item? If it scrap, whats it worth as spares or repairs and is it worth doing anything with it or Skip it?

I dont know folks, help me out as I want to get this working as it would look awesome for the location I have planned for it!

    Bye bye Vec B

What connection are you using for input signal scart, hmdi??? could it be a dodgy connector on the tv i'd try em all (i.e somthing through scart, something through av, hdmi etc) to elimate that, failing that i'd guess it was one of the boards inside the tv rather than the screen itself. maybe worth a call to a local repair shop.

    Big Mac,

Until I read above, the thought never crossed my mind, and TBH, I wouldnt do it anyway, but thanks for the tips guys.

    The M/N is: PS50A456.

TBH, all I want tot do is either getting it going for very little £££'s OR or get shot of it as a spares or repairs item to try to claw some £££'s back of what im owed. I do beleive that it is spares or repairs but im hoping someone will pop along and tell me its just a short circuit or dry joint or similar! Yeh Yeh, I wish! Anyway, if it does turn out to be a Spares or Repairs item, them I will do a seperate FS listing for it.

BUT in the meantime, what would this be worth as it is? Big Mac, if this WIW is not allowed either, please delete this line. Thank you!

Assuming the input source has been tested and works on another TV
Assuming when you power up there is no repsonse when you try to select "MENU" from the remote control

A black screen with random colour dots suggests the optical block has failed
Even if the part is available you are looking at the repair cost being higher than the cost of a new TV

Price for a new one has come down quite a lot mate £549 so best bet would be ebay start it off at £50 and let it run or take it to a tv repair man and ask for a free estimate but dont mention about selling it and just see how much they can fix it for.
If it costs you a couple of hundred i dare say it would be worth it

Think its the same model as mine

Done and done. Cant really see what its repsonding to as the screen's black. The only thing I have managed to do is select a different source and get it to Scart 1/2 and control the volume. Otherwise im simply pee'ing in the wind!

Similar to what someone else told me, but I guess im looking for confirmation as its quite a bitter sweet pill to swallow coz the TV is so smart!

The DomGen policy allows you to purchase a policy for a known faulty product
You need to wait 60 days before making a claim

Has the TV been stored in a dusty environment?
Has the glass been cleaned CORRECTLY?
