Default Brake symbol in rev counter

What does this symbol mean.A sort of wheel with brake pads around the outside.
According to hbook means front pads down but took wheels off and still plenty left. Symbol not on constantly but been on and off last couple of days.
Car booked into dealer for Monday but would just like to know.
Have also checked brake fluid, brake lights and all seems ok
    Car done 36000 miles
    Thanks
    Geoff

If your certain your front pads are fine, then it looks like a dodgy wear sensor wire on the pad.

Check the rears thoroughly. I thought mine had plenty of material left, but the inside rears were almost to the metal.

Yes I was going to say have a look at the rear, it might be them that are worn, not the front.

The rear pads don't have wear sensors, so it won't be the rears that are causing the warning symbol to come up. They only have a sensor on one front wheel

i wouldn't be unusual to have a broken wire within the lead.. do a continuity check between the terminals..

Also, the front wear indicator is quite wide when you look at the pad, so it's giving you a good few miles warning to change them. Do it sooner rather than later anyway. On mine it looked like there was a good few mm of material on the fronts. But like I said, the inside of the rear NS wheel was virtually on the metal by then.

Does seem a bit daft, but then there's only one sensor on the entire car! They must have huge faith that the brakes are well matched.

One of the new MAN lorries at work tells you the percentage of wear on each wheel! Absolutely brilliant piece of kit that!

They must be very confident, you would have thought that you might have two, one front , one diagonaly at the rear,
