    Default one for the police!!!

hi all its been a while since ive been on here so hello i hope someone can help i got a speeding ticket through my door says i was doing 45mph in a 30 zone which to be fair i probably was but i was caught by manned equipment. the question i have is do they have to be visible when they are pointing something at you? i ask this because i did not see any police at all so the only explanation is that they were hiding!!! and if id have known id been caught i would have been waiting for the letter but it came as a shock when i opened it!! if it is that they do have to be visible im considering contesting the fine!! hope this all makes sense and thanks in advance

Have a look on the PePiPoo website - if a search there doesn't give the answer someone will.

AFAIK - there's no regulations enforcing visibility for mobile/temporary cameras - they seem to get away with not trimming hedges/trees near fixed ones as well.

Don't forget that unsuccessfully contesting the fine will lead to doubling plus victim surcharge at magistrates court.

What are the rules for safety cameras?

The Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers decide how safety cameras can be used.

The Department for Transport (DfT) produces a leaflet, 'Use of speed and red-light cameras for traffic enforcement: guidance on deployment, visibility and signing'. The leaflet explains where cameras can be used and how they should be displayed and signposted. However, if a safety camera does not meet this guidance you can't use this as a defence if you are caught speeding or jumping a red light.

Safety cameras are generally installed on roads:

    * with a history of road traffic collisions and
    * where there is evidence of a speeding problem or
    * where there is local community concern

The police may also use cameras to enforce speed limits. In this case the rules about cameras being visible do not apply.

Sorry buddy they dont have to be visible

If they were using a hand held, they could have zapped you when you further back up the road !,hand held speed guns have a range 999 metres this bit of info was given to me when I was stopped once,
But have to agree they do tend to tuck thier cars out of sight which is not the "correct" way.but if you were doing 45 in a 30 limit you should take it on the chin, thats a chav driving speed and very irisponsable..sorry

i think if it was a hand held device then thay have to stop u and give the ticket i got caught and the copper was hiding behind a car with the gun resting on the roof and the stopped me and give me the ticket so i guess u were caught by a road side van or ststic camera and u didnt c it

The best advise you have been given is Ruperts Trooper, goto there website and tell them what happend there are things you can do,some forses let you take an advanced driver program instead of points but you would have to ask about that.

But like RT said goto that website and they will help
