Default Trip Computers On The vec

Hi i was wondering why there are two board computers on my sri 150 cdti one seems to work out the values slowly and gives less readings and the other works them out very fast and gives much higher readings.
Can anyone say what this means please, cheers.

You're not confusing the instant consumption display and the average consumption display, are you ?

Yeah quite possibly i am still getting used to all the functions in the info displays. Which of these displays gives the most accurate reading of fuel consumption? that is what i was trying to work out today.

average consumption is what the car has been getting since that section was last reset.
Could be he last mile or the last 10,000 miles.
Instant consumption is what the car is getting at that second.
It will go up if you take your foot off the throttle (sometimes up to 999mpg)
or down if you have your foot to the floor!

Instant reading should say: Inst Cons (or similar) always changing
Average readings should say : Consumption (or similar) slow changing

I was wondering if this is correct, because if I go down hill and take my foot off the throttle it will read 999.

Incidently, if I put it into Neutral the reading is approx 279, so therefore my thinking was it was using more fuel.

The injectors only cut-off completely at certain points.

Obviously, zero throttle is an absolute but the cut-off only occurs above certain revs, eg 1500rpm but could be different for different engines, otherwise the idle would be very lumpy and the cat needs a certain level of fuel to keep hot.
