    Default Tax/NI

When I started with Sainsbury's I filled in a P46 then handed in my P45 when i got it from Halfords a couple of weeks later.

Anyway I got my first wage last month and had no issues as it was under the taxable amount, but this month my tax code says 647L CUM, and i've worked out i've paid about £70 too much in tax for the amount of taxable pay i got.

Am i on an emergency tax code?

Sadly if you are paid monthly then you typically miss the alignment for the P45 to be processed correctly
This automatically puts your new employment on basic tax rate
In extreme cases it can be up to 3 months to finally get it correct, but if you were paid weekly it would be completed in just 6 weeks
