Default London To Brighton Bike Ride

Anyone on here doing it this year? Will be my 2nd time this year & hoping for great weather like last year, was a scorcher
It's on the 18th of this month & it's all in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Now I know I don't know anyone on here personally but it's surprisingly how many people have time for or have been affected by the work the BHF do that these people dip into their pockets for a donation so if maybe there's a chance of some of you wanting to raise me some sponsorship you can online
    http://www.bhf.org.uk/sponsorship/sp...ipPageID=11742
I'm not expecting much if anything as to be honest I mainly take part for a good day out & not to mention the 54 miles it is to ride so no hard feelings & don't feel bad if you don't.

    Cheers.
PS mods I don't know if begging goes against rules so if so do as you need

Never done it before. I did the London-Cambridge / London-Southend and one other one that I can't recall several times. Never did London-Brighton as it was a bit too scary for me. 20,000+ cyclists on the road - a good majority of them not having a ferking clue how to ride on the road - didn't appeal to me. Too many accidents, pile-ups put me off!

The other ones only had around 3,000 and that was enough! lol Meant I could get my head down and get stuck into it without getting held up too much by cyclist jams! Used to knock them off in 3 hours flat! That's when I was really, really fit!

    Anyway, I digress.....

Very worth cause and close to home for me. Mum's had a heart bypass, as have both her brothers and her other brother died from heart problems - so it kinda runs in the family on her side!! I'll sponsor you Ben - off to click on the linky.

    Wha hey, nice one Dunc

I know what you mean about so many people, last year I got riding along with a club who had a guy at the front shouting at people warning them wewere passing, that kept em away.
Completed it in 6 & half hours which included 4 half hour stops. It's a fun ride, it's not a race, more of a marathon with a huge mountain to climb at the end

Finished the ride with no issues, even hit 47mph down hill other side of the big hill on way down into Brighton, others did 50+
Was riding along sea front taking bike to our transport van & collided with a traffic cone set out to create a cycle lane. Yes ar.se over t1t I went with someone so close behind me he stacked on top of me, how gutted!!!

No probs m8 - well worthy cause.

It was a bit of fun for me as well - but I treated them also a bit like a training run! There's a downhill in Eastbourne that I've regularly hit 50+ on! I PMSL when I pass a car on it and just imagine their face. I daren't look back to have a look though!!

Bummer about that incident at the end!!

For anyone that does sponsor Ben, please make sure you tick the Gift Aid box. Basically the Tax Man/chancellor add a bit more to the donation so they (BHF) actually get more than whatever you donate. May as well make the Tax Man cough up where you can!

Cheers guys, that's great. Was working on the prncipal of asking net communities to sponsor me to get lots of small amounts but that's great.
Thanks again & as Dunc pointed out, don't let the Tax man at it if anything for the sake of it.

Haven't done it for a fair few years, mostly for the reasons Duncan suggested. Too many rich numpties on four grand Cannondales that they bought the day before, who don't have a clue and have to get off and walk every time the road goes even slightly uphill.

Ditchling Beacon is hard enough to cycle up without having to zig-zag around all the other people walking (I had a lowest gear of 42x18 last time I did it)!

It's a good cause though, so enjoy the day.

Tell me about it, I had to get off & walk it as I was being forced to ride so slow
Doubt I would of made it that time anyway but gonna try again this year.
