First the alternator light starts blinking, then stays on. Then the steering and ABS lights come on. And then it loses the gauges--and the power steering! Finally, after a while, everything goes back to normal--except the driver's mental state! Opel has replaced the battery and checked the alternator. Now their machine says the car needs a new ECU at a cost of around €1000!! We're desperate. Can anyone help?

sounds like the voltage regulator may have failed and pumped to much voltage about?

agreed sounds like the systems interface has been spiked by a higher voltage - only way to resolve would be with a replacement ecu - sorry

i had exactly the same after buying my vec 11 mnths ago. happened twice in the first week. once for 5 mins then for about 20 mins before going back to normal. fortunately the problem hasn't occurred since after 20,000 miles.
after asking on this forum the CIM was mentioned a few times by other members.
