Vectra Centre Console removal

Hi everybody!
My lad has a prob with his gears, mainly he can only 'push' his gear stick over far enough to get 3rd and 4th, not 1st and 2nd. So the garage is trying to remove th centre console where the handbrake and gear stick is...but he dont want to break anything so we need to know if it is 'snapped', or screwed in place.
Can we have some help please? And a pic or two would be welcome as well.

Mine will be coming out soon. Haynes covers it in detail so you might want to invest £18 in a copy from Halfords.

It would take some time to describe how to take the console out and pictures help a lot. You've got to take the rear section out before the front section will come out. The join between the 2 sections is in front of the drinks holder and behind the gear lever. The front section goes up the sides of the radio and is screwed in place under the trim that runs across the dash, so that has to come off as well.

had this on an old cav sri, garage adjusted gear linkage which was under the bonnet on the cav. SORTED.

I think the Vectra C is quite a bit different - you have to adjust the gear linkage at the gear lever as well as under the bonnet.

Here's how to get at the gear lever end of the gear change linkage assuming you have manual transmission - it comes apart differently on the automatic.

To get at the gear lever you don't have to remove the whole centre console - just take the ashtray and the ashtray surround out (very hard - just keep pulling it straight up until the clips let go but consider pushing the light unit out first as there's very little cable on it).

Then take out the cigarette lighter and unclip the plastic trim from around it. Take out the trim around the gear lever gaiter and then unclip the edges of the gaiter itself and lift it up. You can then get at the gear selector machanism around the sides of the gear lever without having the remove the console.
