    Default cranksensor

should the Z18XE engine have the cranksensor down at the crank pulley ,on mine i see a circlular hole/mounting bracket and the teeth on the pulley but theres no sensor in it ,seems strange ,and im still having this ongoing erratic idling problem its really bad now, today i put in a new coilpack and new set of injectors but still no luck ,it revs up good and powerfull but ticksover bad with the engine vibrating as if its running on 2 any ideas

I think if it was a faulty crank sensor you would get the management light on.
i had similar on a veccy b after a mate changed the cambelt, turned out the belt was 1 tooth out on one of the pulleys, would rev up fine and powerful but idled like on 2-3 cylinders.
i wouldn't keep changing things mate, they're too expensive, been down this route myself.
might be worth booking into the stealers for an hour to isolate the problem.

The crank sensor is mounted on the front of the block, just above the sump / block interface near the flywheel end. The wiring harness shares with the oil level sensor in the side of the sump on the front too. Just look from underneath the front bumper. One 10mm bolts secures it in place.

However, if the crank sensor was not giving the correct signal, it would flag a fault and start-up would probably be difficult. P0335, is one code. You can get any code by following the process given in 'How to' http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81742

    Works for Z18XE engines.

Have you tired cleaning the Idle control valve..?

If you remove the air pipe between the air cleaner and engine inlet, and then clean the butterfly and surrounding area. I used a cloth damped in petrol and an old toothbrush for getting in the corners. Works well for erratic idle..

Circled in red, along with a couple of other things not important to you.

So you have checked that both cam timing marks line up and the crank position timing mark lines up too?

What are the spark plugs like?

Did you do the code check yet? anything stored?
