Default Guys - CDTi not starting today!!!!

    Hi All,
Came to start car this morning (06 plate 150 CDTi), i have an 'F' on the trip computer (indicating a generic fault i think).
When the key is turned to the position where the glow plugs should come in, they stay off, and when all the other warning lights go out, the battery stays on, and when the key is turned to the turn over position - nothing happens and the battery light stays on.

It is a cold morning, but never had any trouble before.

Have tried jump starting to no avail.

All electrics are working, headlights are nice and strong.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

If you can hear a click, then I'd say the starter motor's gone mate. battery's obviously ok, glowplugs will only come on below 5 degrees (I think) but the fact that the starter isn't engaging means there probably isn't a problem with them.

When you turn the key to the start position, you shoul dhear a click. This is the relay for the starter - it takes current (and lots of it) directly from the battery so the key operater a small circuit with operates the relay to transfer power to the starter, and you can normally hear this...

There's no fuse for it, for the above reasons... Should be able to bump start it if you know someone with a a tow rope...

Thanks for the suggestions - waiting for the recovery people to arrive, following a generous (not) upgrade offer from AA.

Recovery guy just left. The ****ing car started first time as soon as he got here!!!!!

No sign of any fault now. Although it has wamed up now outside.

Vx want £80 to plug in and diagnose, as the fault code should still be logged somewhere.

While the fault was present, i could hear the clicking sound of a relay trying to come in, therefore I was thinking starter motor.
    What now - temp sensor?

Nah, possibly the starter on it's way out mate. Don't let VX touch it until you decide to go to them to get it replaced. it's possible with it being cold something may have gone inside, but was ok when it had warmed up a bit...

There is nothing else in the system apart from that relay and a direct connection to the battery, so I'd say go for that if it happens again...
