    Talking Nigerian Scammers: Extreme...

We've all heard of these - the emails you recieve offering a share of huge volumes of money in exchange for handling it into the country etc etc. Most of us just ignore these. A few people, however, take it upon themselves to engage the scammers in discussion - scamming the scammers...

The website dedicated to this is www.419eater.com as they are known as 419 scams. The basic idea is to reply to the scammer, and convince them that they have taken you in, you wish to help etc, and get them to do various things to prove they're real. usually, this takes the form of them having a photo taken with a sign saying something specific, and doing something odd. the odder the better in fact...

A good example of this is the following story, where the scmbaiter gets the scammer to record himself reading the first 35 chapters of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. He does this because he believes he's going to get paid for it, and the tapes are available to download and listen to. Having read the story myself several times, it's not an easy read, especially when English isn't your first language...

The best story, however, comes from a few years ago. In a nutshell, the scambaiter convinced the scammer to send two of his mates from Lagos, Nigeria to far off Sudan, where they ventured into a civil war in Western Darfur, never to be heard from again. Read how their desperate boss was convinced that he could rescue them by traveling to Khartoum, Sudan, only to be met with ridicule at a Sudanese prison.

    Definitely worth a read...
